Use these examples to help you pinpoint your search:

What can I search? Previous screen

This multi-search will search the roadway standards. The user can narrow their search to one or more of the following document collections:

Facilities Development Manual (FDM)

Standard Specifications (Spec)

Constructions and Materials Manual (CMM)

Contract Management System (CMS)

What is a boolean search? Previous screen

Boolean expressions are words (or, and, and not, and near) used to create relationships among the keywords in your search query. Parentheses ( ) can also be used to group expressions. Below is a list of expressions with their corresponding symbol (you may use either) and function:

or	\|	one or both terms are present
not	!	term following "not" is not present
near	~	terms appear near each other

Is searching case-sensitive?: No. Searching for Culvert Pipe will also match culvert pipe.

How many search results will be returned? Previous screen: The default is 200. You may also select 100 from the drop-down box.

How many search results are listed on a page? Previous screen: The default number is 25. You may also choose to return 10 pages at a time using the drop-down box.

What kind of information is listed in the search results? Previous screen: The default is "titles only" which displays only the page title. The user can also select "full descriptions" which displays the page title, the abstract (a short description of the page) and the date and time the page was last changed.

You can control the results of you search with these options:: The maximum number of search results to return (100 or 200)
The number of search results to be displayed per page (10 or 25)
The format of the search return (page title only or full description)

Some words, punctuation, and boolean operators are ignored as search terms, or have special meanings. For example:: and

If you type these words by themselves in the "Search for" box, an error message will display. Try your search again, using a valid word or phrase in the "Search for" box.

Search ranking: Search ranking is based on several criteria, including where the search term is found in the resulting document. When doing a Near search, the ranking is affected not only by the frequency and position of keywords, but also by their proximity.

Searching for phrases:

Use Exact phrases. If you know an exact phrase, put the phrase in quotes, for example: "liquidated damages".
To search for a phrase that contains quotation marks, enclose the entire phrase in quotation marks, and then place double quotation marks where you want a quotation mark to appear.
